Week 65

L - Boozalicious - Well this small collection of alcoholic beverages and related items sums up the last week or so. Festive cheer aplenty!

R - similar to one I took last year but more snow and less dirty! The snow really was crazy, and in the distance you can see the wind whipping it up and around which buried people's cars, so happy to be car free in NYC. Also it was hard to choose between this photo and Diego who came a close second. He was very tired after Christmas Dinner.

Week 64

Another festive post this week, both including our pets...

L - Well I'm super late this week....sadly I have been doing boring stuff like painting and that is why I took so long. Anyway, I thought it would be fun to include a photo of me (and my cat - can you see her?) for a change with a festive spin! Here it is my bauble reflection.

R - it took a few tries and a toy on my head to get him to stay still. I mostly enjoy his greying beard, Little D is getting old, he'll be 5 in January and finally older that me (in dog years). Shame I couldn't capture him launching himself at my head to get the toy!

Week 63

L - Candy Canes and Christmas Lights - Super late in posting this but I did take it last week. I love sugar canes for some reason - really festive I guess. So you can't beat a bit of Candy cane and bokeh action to capture the festive season.

R - Find the Broken Bulbs - it's that time of year to dig out the "holiday" decorations, the tree lights were a little bit broken, but nothing a scientist can't fix, but can you see the broken one?

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Week 62

L - Retro Sunday - I was down at the beach on Sunday and this car was in the car park...wonderfully retro.

R - Twilight on Saint James - I struggled this week and had to play around a little but got this shot on my street (Saint James) that I'm happy with. I did a little lomo and tilt-shift effect processing for the effect.

Monday, November 29, 2010

Week 61

L - Hello Possums! - Well this little fella was curled up on the ground in our back garden. They are nocturnal so I think it was just curling up and trying to go to sleep after falling from a tree.
We saved it and put it back up in the tree...it scampered off to go back to sleep. Yay for us....we have some good karma today.

R - I Believe - Oh Macy's how I love you and how I hate you all at the same time. You're overwhelming in size and pretty much every tourist in NYC is visiting you but you do have some lovely bargains!

Thursday, November 25, 2010

Week 60

L - A Slice of Life - Inspired by this guy Luke Roberts who has done a few of these peg photos...I thought I would capture part of my day to day....for no other reason than I did not do a great deal last week. ;-) Ooh also used the Coloured Paper No.6 texture from Lost and Taken

R - It's that time of year again for the Fall *cough* Autumn leaves photo! pretty pretty colours

Monday, November 15, 2010

Week 59

L - City by the Sea - This is an early morning shot from Brighton beach towards Melbourne...you can see the city in the distance.

R -Hipster Bike - This weekend I got my new custom bike from 718 Cyclery. Thanks to everyone at the NIH for their kind contribution towards my leaving present I had a great ride to work today but my legs are complaining after a few *cough* weeks off.

Monday, November 8, 2010

Week 58

L - have been looking for these very Jack Purcell Converse shoes for a while...and I found them in an outlet store this weekend for only $48...down from $139! Who doesn't love a bargain.

R - The marathon route goes past the end of our street and and we went to cheer on a few friends who were running. These are the "elite men" who finished in something ridiculous like 2 hours and 10 mins.

Monday, November 1, 2010

Week 57

L - Halloween Cupcakes - Well sadly, I wasn't dressing up for anything this year for Halloween but feeling like I needed to get into a spooky spirit I made some halloween themed cupcakes for some friends that came over.

R - Angel in America - Went for a stroll this weekend in Central Park and went to see the Angel of the Waters at the Bethesda Terrace as featured in Angels in America. So beautiful and the autumn colours were spectacular I'm so glad we went to see her.

Thursday, October 28, 2010

Week 56

L - Suburban Silhouettes

R - Halloween's Coming - I've been out and about in the neighbourhood with little D admiring the local halloween decorations.

Monday, October 18, 2010

Week 55

L - On Your BikeI was in the city this weekend supporting Shane who was doing a 100km cycle from the tip of the bay peninsula to the city. The weather was not on their side but the clouds did part in the afternoon when they crossed the line. These bikes are actually a new tourist initiative in the city, I think you put some money in the meter and off you go. They are not so popular mainly as helmets are compulsory in Oz but they have no way of supplying them with the bike.

R - Office Daydream - So this is the view from my office window, the photo doesn't really do it justice though. Where I work is really industrial with lots of factories and warehouses, but in the distance you can see all the sights of manhattan, it's really quite the view!

Wednesday, October 13, 2010

Week 54

L - Holy Cow - Ha this is a fun sculpture in Melbourne's Docklands of a cow stuck in a tree (work that one out?!). We were hanging out at the wonderful Finders Keepers market and after some food and drinks we walked back along the wharf and the cow in a tree was looking just right at sunset. Fun.

R - Brownstone Stoops - I  took this picture last night whilst out walking little D, we live on a lovely street of Brooklyn Brownstones and they all have stoops like these to hang out on.

Year 2 Begins - Week 53

L - Happy Birthday Me! First week of year 2 of side by side. My birthday...32 years young. Because the weekend was so busy I didn't get too creative. But just a quick shot of my cards...to start the year.

R - Rainy Day Fund - packing packing packing and time to cash in the rainy day fund, moving to NYC is not cheap!

Tuesday, September 28, 2010

Week 52

L - Last Hoorah - This was our last snowboard trip of the season and what a beauty warm sunny day which means fun spring snow. It also was photo for year 1 of my side by side project with Ross. However this is just the last photo of this year....we will continue with side by side for another year. Yay.

R - Parking Permits - I went to the very efficiently run permit office yesterday and got these beauties to put out on the street so people won't park their cars infront of the building where we want to load up the truck. Seems like an exciting end to year 1 of the side by side project even if it is a boring photo. Still a few more days of unemployment to enjoy before the move.

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

Week 51

L - 90 Years Young - It was Shane's Granda's 90th Birthday last week, was a funny day with so many people I didn't know but he had a happy day with everyone laughing and joking around him.

R - LES Fire Escapes - After signing a lease, we were hanging out in the Lower East Side, I love love love the fire escapes, and the delicious $1 dumplings we found ($1 for 5 = :D)

Monday, September 20, 2010

Week 50

L - Home to the Gnomes - This is a funny little novelty sighting on the way to one of the Victorian Ski Resorts - Mt Buller. We look for it every time we visit. There is even an official road warning sign that says Gnomes Crossing. Cute

R - Puppy Dog Eyes - Too many things happened this weekend and I stayed up until 4am on saturday night, well sunday morning so I wasn't that creative, but luckily Diego is very photogenic.

Thursday, September 9, 2010

Week 49

L - Whilst out and about at the weekend I spotted these birds just chillin on these poles and liked how there was an odd one out third from the right, Not really much story just intriguing birds.

R - We were in Vermont this weekend for a friend's wedding and this scary house was across the street from our ski lodge. Not a flake of snow in sight, or any axe yielding crazies!

Monday, August 30, 2010

Week 48

L - Flowers, for me??? A colourful one for me this week. Shane brought home some flowers for me on Friday, just because! Which was nice...we like pretty flowers. Ooh and they are Tulips which says...SPRING!! (coming soon anyway!)

R - In the Cement - I saw this when we moved into our new place and it's been a staple phrase in my vocabulary since moving to H St, I guess now we're leaving I had to snap a pic of it to remember it forever. Also I think it might be the start of "In the cement" another new photo project.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010

Week 47

L - Well another snowy side by side, we headed up for a weekend of snowboarding and it snowed all day! I proclaimed my love for the fresh snow which had fallen in a few hours by trying to draw a heart in my car mirror...complete with icicles. This doesn't happen too often in Australia so its pretty awesome.

R - We went apartment searching in NYC and I captured this from the highest residential building in Brookers. From the 51st floor it's quite the view, but sadly $2700/month for a 1 bedroom *gasp*

Monday, August 16, 2010

Week 46

L - Underground Love - Ok so I cheated this week as I took this photo a couple of months ago and it never made the cut. Anyway this deserves to be here due to the pure randomness of this....this is an ant hole in the sand shaped in a heart. A chance sighting!

R - I have decided to do a "corners" photo project with my fisheye gizmo. Took Diego a wee walk on the weekend to the dog park and started looking at all the corners

Monday, August 9, 2010

Week 45

L - Ahh if you can't have powder, freshly groomed corduroy runs on a bluebird day are the next best thing. We had our first weekend at the snow for the season, we picked a good one. The sun shone and snow was crisp...nice.

R - Found this in an alley a few weeks ago whilst walking Diego, think it's been a while since a dog lived there.

Monday, August 2, 2010

Week 44

L - The Last Seeds - So more experimentation this week these two little seed pods have been on the bare tree for ages and I keep wondering if they will ever fall off. I took a photo of them and picked one up off the ground and took a photo of it. A bit of processing trickery and overlayed the seed texture and this is exactly the colour I got when I combined the two photos.

R - More playing around with my tripod and long exposures, this time of the iconic Capitol building from my rooftop. I just played with the levels to boost the whiter than whiteness of the capitol dome. Not as exciting as the portrait version but can't win them all.

Monday, July 26, 2010

Week 43

L - Giggin and Gyoza - I said I would never do this but I used my phone for this weeks photo. I had a wonderful Saturday night eating some yummers Japanese food...mmmh Gyoza and went to see the Temper Trap. Fab. So that really the excitement for this week.

R - Help me I'm melting - hottest July 24th on record hit 102 I think, but the "real feel" was 108F (42C). Went out for a spot of lunch and a spot of heatstroke, but nothing several pints of water and a 2 hour nap couldn't fix. The whole city is buzzing to the sound of air conditioning units and I walked past this old hipster one still fulfilling it's cooling destiny and thought it deserved to be remembered forever.

Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Weed 42

L - Experimental - Well I did not have much time for photos this week but whilst trying something else my phone showed up in the photo. So I started messing with album covers in my ipod and this is what I got. Bit random but experimenting is what its all about.

R - during a storm one night I took several long exposures of a flag across the street and overlayed them and did stuff I can't remember and this is how it turned out. The cool blue and vignette came all by themselves, shame the stars weren't as bright as the stripes.

Monday, July 12, 2010

Week 41

L - Sucked into Twilight - Yep...I resisted this for over 2 years but I saw one of the movies recently and decided I might read the book....don't think I have read a book so quickly in a long time. I have read 2 of the books in almost as many days!! So this photo sums up the last week.

R - Local artist BK Adams recently put a new sculpture installation in an empty lot by my apartment. For ages I've been meaning  to take my camera and snap a few pics. This is my favourite piece, a chair on the top of a 20ft pole but there are a few other goodies that surprisingly haven't been stolen or damaged.

Tuesday, July 6, 2010

Week 40

L - Boring I know...30th of June is the end of the tax year in Australia and I spent a fair bit of last week looking at figures and filling out forms. It also marks 6months of us running our own business! Onwards and upwards

R - I guess it's the "morning after" the 4th of July. We watched the fireworks from a friend's rooftop drank and ate lots and had a fun time. This morning I was walking Deigo and saw this pile of spent fireworks and I thought it summed up the morning perfectly - burnt out! It's also supposed to hit 100 degrees today and 104 tomorrow ug!

Monday, June 28, 2010

Week 39

L - I have been meaning to learn how to make these after seeing them everywhere in Japan and this weekend I finally got around to it using special paper that I bought for the purpose.

R - I snapped this photo outside my apartment building last week as these were beginning to wilt. Now that the sweaty DC summer has started they are all kind of sad and brown so I'm glad I got this while they were showing their true glory.

Monday, June 21, 2010

Week 38

L - It was a chilly weekend spent at home with the fire on most of the time planning some new projects! The close up of the gas fire elements just make me feel warm looking at them.

R - There is a law in DC that bans overhead wires on the streets but there is currently a battle to try and overrule this law to allow streetcars to be introduced into the city and run on overhead wires. They have built several tracks in the city but currently don't have permission to run the trains with overhead wires *sigh* I saw these in an alley this weekend and snapped this pic, it's a rare site in DC, and something you don't really notice the lack of until you walk down the alleyways where they are allowed.

Tuesday, June 15, 2010

Week 37

L - I found some bubbles and tried to capture them floating...I tried outside but the breeze was too strong and they just kept blowing away. I tried inside tonight and I got one eventually and now I am covered in soapy stickiness.

R - a little boring this week mostly because Sunday came and went with a hangover and I realised I forgot to take my photo.........when the sun sets the blinds cast some cool shadows on the ceiling

Monday, June 7, 2010

Week 36

L - My first attempt at star trails...very hard and lots to learn. But I am quite happy with my first effort. Shame my battery went flat and I couldn't try again. I took this from the back of our cabin in the Grampians, Victoria where we went for the weekend.

R - The lovely Leslie brought me some goodies back from Japan including....King Ken and a forest Munny. Fun!

Tuesday, June 1, 2010

Week 35

Spooky we both chose people for this weeks posting, and ended up in black and white!

L - I had to take some shots of my (nearly) niece and nephews for some family project they were working on. It rapidly descended into chaos with lots of silly shots. Good fun.

R - after spending a whole day up on the rooftop enjoying the holiday weekend and missing so many photos opportunities because I forgot my camera, I snapped this inside and went for an over processed black and white look. I really like the way you can see the outline of Niall's hand. Oh yes, meet Niall, the first person to feature in side by side!

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Week 34

L - Well, I got myself a new bike this weekend and I spent most of my time this weekend either looking for it or riding it!! Therefore an apt shot of bicycle spokes was only right.

R - We went up the funicular railway up the Cairngorm mountains in Scotland which have had snow every month for the last 9 months! The funicular operator called this season "the big dig" because they spent most of the winter digging out the funicular tracks and the car park. Was weird to see so much snow in the middle of May. Seeing the tracks got me thinking about how all the snow must be melting from the bottom into the mountain and then down, the turn tracks were still so clear.

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

Week 33

L - We don't get the same lovely autumn foliage that I am used to from home, this yellowy colour is as good it gets in most areas. These leaves were just as they fell on the ground.

R - On a trip home for my friend's wedding I did a wee tour of Scotland and got this photo. It's not a joke, there really is a place called Lost

Tuesday, May 11, 2010

Week 32

L - Well I have been sick for the last couple of days and apart from a trip to Ikea I have not been doing much at all. I caught Missy enjoying the sunshine, so here it is.

R - We went to Kings Dominion for Cesar's Birthday, it was fun, it was scary, we got battered and bruised by all the roller coaster riding. The old wooden ones were just as scary as the new GIGA-coaster The Intimidator 305. A fun day was had by all and my 93mph hair after The Intimidator 305, had all kinds of volume!

Monday, May 3, 2010

Week 31

L - The best of a bad bunch from my day of capturing water droplets...! The result was about 3 half decent photos and a LOT of water everywhere.

R - This is the view from the rooftop of my building looking east down H St towards downtown DC. You can also see the Washington Monument to the top left of the photo. I've wanted to take this for a while to give it as a gift to a friend so now that I've got a tripod I was finally able to capture it. Not super happy with it but it's a good intro into some long exposures. I'd like a few more cars for light trails, but it just wasn't happening.

Tuesday, April 27, 2010

Week 30

L - Japan Travel Diary: I started to put together my travel diary probably more a scrapbook when I was away but didn't finish it off. I carried where I left off this weekend.

R - Creepy Face: C found this old plaster cast of his face at his parents place. It that was used to make a mask for a play, it's creepy but so cool!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

Week 29

L - A view of Tokyo at night from the Government Building. Didn't have the right camera gear to take a good pic but I improvised and got an ok shot.

R - Macy's had a one day sale (pretty much a weekly event) so I got a waffle iron. I've wanted one forever but always thought it would end up collecting dust but my friend Ryan said I'd use it so here goes....Peanut butter and Jelly flavour! yummers they were amazing, I'm very happy and will waffle every weekend!

Monday, April 19, 2010

Week 28

L - One of many shots taken at the amazing Fushimi-Inari Taisha in Kyoto. The Shrine was dedicated to the gods of rice and sake in the 8th century but since it signifies success in businesses. A pathway lead 4km up the mountain and is lined with these glorious Tori gates most of the way. One of the highlights of my trip.

R - I take my camera out on the weekend mornings when I walk Diego, and snapped this just as we were coming back home. I took a few which were boring, but then took one on this angle and it's much more interesting.

Look Leslie, we both have paths in our photos going in the same direction.....creepy

Monday, April 5, 2010

Week 27

L - Some ladies making there way to the temple today in Kurashiki (Near Okayama)

R - As an early birthday celebration I went with some friends to a very special Easter brunch with bottomless mimosas/champagne and bloody marys. I sampled all of the above and brunch lasted 3.5 hours shazzam!

Monday, March 29, 2010

Week 26

L - I was cleaning on the weekend and I found this little guy belly up on the windowsill. A bit bizarre I know but the texture and pattern are fab I think. Plus his curly antennae love it.

R - Diego found a new friend outside, then proceeded to destroy him...poor rudolph!

Monday, March 22, 2010

Week 25

L - Not very exciting this week as I spent most of the weekend planning for my big trip in a week or so. Not much time for photo taking. I keep all my travel stuff from ALL of my travels one day I will make a big collage type print. I was looking for passport etc and came across this and spent the next hour reminiscing about past travel. Good times!!

R - this week I found my extension tubes to turn my kit lens into a macro lens so I had a wee play around with Meche's eyeballs and nose! she was very patient, unlike Diego. Not the sharpest, but you have to manual focus and it was a little tricky but this is what I got. You can see C, photos on the wall, the tv underneath them, the window and me of course! quite a lot of stuff for one tiny eyeball.

Monday, March 15, 2010

Week 24

Note for this week......Mother's Day in the UK was yesterday Sunday 14th March

L - Last photo taken for the stop motion video I made for my Mum. See it below or Here!.

R - Not very exciting this week, I took this photo a wee while ago while there was still some snow around. I snapped though the security fence of this old building that I'm dying to get into and have a wee photo shoot. I just need some anorexic models in skinny jeans for the ultimate urban hipster photo shoot.

Monday, March 8, 2010

Week 23

L - One of the many pics taken on day out to The Otways, Victoria. I had planned to do a long exposure shot to get a fuzzy blur to the waterfall but it was too bright and it didn't work.Boo.

R - I was waiting for the bus under the Chinatown arch and happened to have my camera with me so dragons it is! Apparently, it's the largest such single span archway in the world

Monday, March 1, 2010

Week 22

L - I see this everyday on my way home from work and I am intrigued....who loves Hannah?? Random...but cute.

R - I took this from the rooftop of my apartment building, it is the intersection of H St NE and 3rd St NE, not really on the tourist route, hence the empty bus. In the top left hand corner, you can see the liquor store I frequent, oh and I did a tilt-shift effect too for that toy model effect.

Monday, February 22, 2010

Week 21

L - Fast Cyclists - I was supporting Shane again this weekend at his 2nd Tri and I took this while practicing shots before he passed me. I kinda like it with the sun etc. even though its blurry I like that too.

R - Snowmageddon, the aftermath - The big melt is happening, leaving behind mountains of gritty snow and uncovering all sorts of goodies that Diego is getting his nose into.

Wednesday, February 17, 2010

Week 20

L - Ahhhhhh.....flowers and a card on Valentine's Day

R - Seriously, will it ever melt?

Monday, February 8, 2010

Week 19

L - my cat Missy's paws....cuuute!

R - It snowed from 11am Friday morning until around 4pm Saturday afternoon. We were forced to walk on the road because the snow was up past my knees on some parts of the of the sidewalk, we sought refuge under the bridge to escape the bitter wind. I love the apocalyptic feel the whole day has had and the light at the end of the tunnel.

Monday, February 1, 2010

Week 18

L - My yummy lazy Sunday breakfast....yummm!!

R - it snowed all day Saturday, this morning was glorious and sunny so I took D out to run around in the park, he loves to make yellow snow!

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

Week 17

L - Camping on the Murray River over the Australia Day long weekend. So relaxing.

R - my apartment building viewed from H St NE across an open lot, wonder what will be built there?

Monday, January 18, 2010

Week 16

L - Shane's first Triathlon..powering up the beach after his swim!! I was the supportive spectator!

R - Razor wire outside our hostel room in San Jose. It's still a little scary in certain areas of the city and tourists are advised not to walk around at night. We had not problems and really enjoyed the city, but home security measures were visible everywhere.
